U.S. Appreciates Indonesia’s Role in South China Sea and Myanmar Conflicts


JAKARTA: United States Government stated its appreciation for Indonesia role in resolving conflict in South China Sea and Myanmar.

Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said the appreciation was conveyed by US Foreign Affairs Minister Hillary Clinton during a courtesy visit to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Presidential Palace, today (9/4/2012).

"The development in the South China Sea, particularly on the U.S. government appreciation for Indonesia's role in the managing this problem, maintaining the integrity of Asean."

"[Meanwhile], the handling of the Rohingya issue, the U.S. once again expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s role," Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said in a press conference at the presidential office after Hillary met with President Yudhoyono on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

The U.S. said that Indonesia has tried to maintain the integrity of Asean, and encouraged the achievement of the code of conduct, as well as the stress that the problem can be managed.

He added that U.S.Foreign Minister also expressed her appreciation to the President for his role in ensuring the progress of democracy and reform in Myanmar. "The U.S. expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s role which is highly scalable and truly showing concern based on the developed fact," Marty said
